Is it painful?

Acupuncture:

While some techniques can be a bit more painful than others, most patients feel little to no discomfort during the treatment. Acupuncture needles are solid filiform, almost threadlike, needles that are very small. Also, acupuncture needles are not hollow like hypodermic needles, so the process is generally much less painful than getting an injection at the doctor’s office. The typical needle used by Dr. Weeks can fit 20 needles inside the tip of a standard hypodermic syringe, so they’re very small.

Allergy Therapy:

No. Advanced Allergy Therapeutics is a pain-free, no needle procedure, that is very gentle and comfortable — even for children.

Are there any side effects?

Acupuncture:

Generally, there are none. Acupuncture is a very safe treatment. There can occasionally be slight bruising, and in very rare circumstances more severe complications.

Allergy Therapy:

In general no, however, patients may need to avoid a food or allergen for up to 24 hours after the treatment. Occasionally, patients may feel tired or a little lightheaded after treatment.

How do I prepare for my treatment?

Acupuncture:

Drink water, wear loose comfortable clothing that allows easy access from the knees to toes, and elbows to fingers.

Alternative Allergy Therapy:

No special preparation needed. If being treated for a food substance, the patient may want to prepare to not eat for 2 hours after the treatment and avoid the substance treated for 24 hours after treatment.

Do you accept insurance?

Acupuncture:

Yes, we are credentialed with many common insurances, please call the office and we will verify your benefits.

Allergy Therapy:

AAT is a non-covered therapy, however, many FSA/HSAs will cover the expense.

How often should I be treated?

Acupuncture:

At the end of your initial visit, a custom treatment plan will be advised.

Allergy Therapy:

Most substances take 1-3 sessions to fully treat. Once a substance has been treated, it usually will not need re-treatment for years to forever.

How long is the average session?

Acupuncture:

Treatments last approximately 1 hour.

Alternative Allergy Therapy:

Treatments are usually 30 minutes, but if doing an exam as well the appointment usually lasts an hour.
